Yes, really: Space Pirates!  They're here!

"Stig Jorgensen knew that sixty years ago the raiders known as Las Lomas Girls – The Hills Girls – appeared at the end of the Veil Nebula War (W-NGC-6960), visited each of the waylaid ships, killed the wounded, cut out their thigh bones, extracted the marrow, and flash-froze that bone-flecked fat to provision their next conquest."

Yes, I DID write a story about space pirates for the Martinus Publishing writing contest last fall, and yes, it did tie for first place (even though I only turned in HALF a story), and yes, it was accepted for this Space Pirate Anthology, and YES, it's now available in paperback and kindle at Amazon.  Go here!

My story  opens the anthology, so you can read the entire thing in the Kindle preview on Amazon FOR FREE, but if you are intirigued by the other titles (I certainly am), or want to really support Martin, who is an author-centric publisher (the best kind), you can pick up either a real book or a kindle version.

"When I think about those early human beings, I like to imagine how they communicated with one another. And do you know what I think was the  earliest form of conversation?  The knock-knock joke."

"Press '1" to Begin" was published in Nature's Futures Column back in 2009, and it has been picked up for their second "Best of" Anthology, which will be available as an e-book this summer.

If you would like to read this short-short story, it's here.

The Secret Life of Ghosts

"Let There Be Darkness," the story I wrote last year about a vengeful ghost who tries to drive a family out of their rustic manor house, will be available this summer in Martinus Press's Anthology The Secret Life of Ghosts. I will find a good quote from it later -- and I'm looking forward to see what cover Martin picks out for this one!

Thank you, Martin!

My story about a bottled genie who doesn't have the most ideal gift for a rescuer, "Curse of the Bottle," is now included in 2013 Best of Martinus Publishing, available here.  This story was also featured in Quests, Curses, and Revenge this year.

I am really indebted to Martin Ingham this year: he has made it a publishing year for me.  Thank you, Martin!  You are wonderful!

Okay: this is not one of mine.  It's a short story in lovely e-book form by a very fine author and friend. Everyone who reads this story LOVES this story, and editors just keep reviving it because it is so good.

It just feels like a classic.  You should read it.  It's on Amazon!

Does having "Curse of the Bottle" picked up for Martinus Publishing's Best Of 2013 Anthology also count?

Why, yes.  Yes, I think it does.

What's better than having one story published in an anthology?

Two stories! The stories were originally written for the "Spring 2013 Shoot-out," a writing contest hosted by the editor, Martin Ingham of Martinus Publishing.

From "Revenge, Inc."
"And yes, in the next hour, he did receive the whole package: the  handcuffs, the black hood, the delivery to an undisclosed location, the solitary  cement room with flickering neon lighting."

From "Curse of the Bottle"
"I wasn’t quite sure what that all entailed, but I was pretty sure it did not involve screaming and crying like a six year old beauty queen who’d lost to the fat kid."

Forgotten Fairy

I've written a few poems, most of them marginal at best, but my favorite was published in the print version of Scavenger's Newsletters, which is where all of us pining writers would go to find magazines to submit to, in the 1990's and just into the new century.  Here is the poem again -- "Forgotten Fairy"

Yes, leopard forest fairies dancing
In the twilight of seasons' passions
Lance of gold, sun-spotted rivers
Love's snowy silk in shadowed slivers
Unseen, unheard, untouched, and merry
This is, yes, forgotten fairy!

Hi! I am Nye Joell Hardy.
I write science fiction and fantasy. The science fiction makes my head happy. The fantasy makes my heart happy. Oh, and I have started making "Moth Books." Although I sell all these things, none are making me rich. But I'm happy, damn it.

I have listed most of my published stories on this page. If you are actually reading this, I am so jazzed, I can barely ttyyppeeee....
